Throughout the years, the University of Prince Edward Island has made a great deal of positions available to students directly on campus. Each year a wide array of students are hired across nearly each and every faculty. These positions can become available anytime, and can last anywhere from 8 weeks, to the duration of an academic year. Payment type also varies widely from hourly rates, to salaries, or even residence reimbursement.
A wide range of student employment on campus is taken up by research assistants. Such positions are more on the general side, meaning an abundant amount of background knowledge is likely not necessary. Although of course, duties will vary from faculty to faculty, typically these students are responsible for conducting, managing, and/or the interpretation of research, data, statistics, etc. Hours typically vary between 15-30 hours per week, while payment usually hovers around $12.75-$15.75/hr.
UPEI also offers more intricate positions suited to specific areas of study. These could include anything from student advisors, coordinators, associates, and more advanced research assistants. These positions often involve specific qualifications and knowledge, as well as provide a more hands on work experience.
Subsequently, if working on campus isn’t for you, UPEI is conveniently located in the heart of Charlottetown. Meaning anything you would ever need, is basically at your fingertips. This being said, students have various options when it comes to a local workplace. With only a five minute drive, why not take up a barista position at starbucks? Maybe you like the simplicity of bagging groceries, Superstore is only three minutes down the road! Along with so many other employment options, students here at UPEI will never struggle to find a job.
