The University of New Brunswick takes action to ensure academic success is attainable for all students. Unique to the University, and not available at many other facilities, UNB offers FREE, generalized Drop-in tutor sessions to all students in need of assistance regarding course material. FREE private tutoring is also available for students who prefer more of a one-on-one setting. Similar to any other educational institution, each year Student Services works to publish an Inventory of tutors whom specifically specialize in certain areas of study. Students seeking this additional assistance may pay an hourly rate for such service, typically within the range of $12-$20, payable to the tutor.

UNB’s Math Learning Center also offers facilitating review sessions in preparation for large assessments. Prior to midterms and/or exams, students may visit the Math Centre on D2L to receive studying techniques, preparation advice, and any necessary concept clarification.

An additional facilitating resource — the Writing and Study Skills Program, is available to assist students with any and all writing, and study-based needs! Tutors are available to provide writing support amongst all disciplines and subject areas, throughout all stages of the writing process. Staff also specialize in guiding students towards proper study techniques, assessment preparation, and time management skills.

Mental/physical health resources

The UNB Student Health Centre — open year round to full-time UNB and STU students, is committed to providing general quality health care. Staff are committed to their job, and personally take into consideration the importance of student wellness. The Health Center is equipt to assess and manage a wide array of medical problems, with the goal of keeping academic success rates high, and medical interruptions at a low.

In addition to physical well-being, the Student Health Centre prioritizes mental health to the same extent. Individuals’ mental stability, and well-being play an immense role in the overall quality of one’s life. Therefore UNB devotes willingness, time, and passion into aiding students to the best of their ability. Counselling Services are free of charge to full-time UNB, and STU students. Counsellors are committed to assisting all issues, no problem too big, or too small. From nutritional coaching, to smoking cessation, and everything in between, UNB will always have your back.

An alternative twist to traditional facilitating student services lies in the grounds of both the Saint John, and Fredericton UNB campuses. The Office of Human Rights & Positive Environment provides free leadership and support services for initiatives and policies that contribute to a positive, healthy, equitable, respectful and inclusive campus environment. The office frequently collaborates to provide up-to-date awareness, and educational training on numerous human rights matters. Some of which may include; harassment/discrimination occurances, related policy and procedure explanation, guidance through complaint processes, awareness programs, etc.

Financial aid services

UNB’s Financial Aid Office provides students with advice on financial matters, and aid to those requiring assistance to finance their university education. The University of New Brunswick understands that academics at the university level can grow to be financially overbearing — “every student is unique, and so are their financial backgrounds.” Experienced staff will help students explore all the financial options, and provide guidance towards the best fit financial plan. UNB Financial Aid is dedicated to helping everyone achieve their goal.
