Durham College’s on-campus job programs are meant to provide beneficial career-related experiences to full-time, domestic and foreign students who demonstrate a financial need in order to help them accomplish their personal and academic objectives. Durham College provides funding for these programs, which pay well. DCWorks programs allow students to work part-time during their studies from September to April. In August of each year, students must submit an application, which may be accessed on MyCampus.

The following are their requirements in order to be eligible for the DCWorks program:

  • Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident and meet the Ontario Residency requirements as defined by OSAP
  • Have a demonstrated financial need
  • Be enrolled in a full time post-secondary program with a minimum of 60 percent of course load
  • Achieve a GPA of 2.0 or higher each semester to remain eligible for the program

During September to April the IWorks programs allow students to work part-time during their studies. Students must complete an application, which can be found on MyCampus in August of each year. The Durham college requests that the follow requirements be met before students apply:

  • Be an international student holding a valid Study Permit
  • Be able to obtain a Social Insurance Number (Studying and working in Canada as an international student)
  • Be enrolled in a full time post-secondary program with a minimum of 60 per cent of course load
  • Achieve a GPA of 2.0 or higher each term to remain eligible for the program

Between May and August, the Durham College Summer Employment programme provides returning students a limited number of full-time work options. In March of each year, students must complete an application that may be accessed on MyCampus. Students who are interested in participating in the summer employment program are unable to enrol in classes during the summer semester. To be considered for this program, the following are the requirements that DC requests need to be met before students apply:

  • Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident and meet the Ontario Residency requirements as defined by OSAP
  • Be an OSAP recipient or have a demonstrated a financial need
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student in the fall and winter semesters preceding the summer employment period
  • Be returning to full-time studies in the fall semester following the summer employment period
  • Have a GPA of 2.0 or higher in the their previous semester

Overall Durham college has alot of opportunities on campus for students to benefit from and take advantage of if they live on-campus or locally off-campus. This allows students, including international students, to earn an extra bit of money on the side for monthly expenses or additional school expenses such as textbooks.However, aside from on-campus opportunities, the college is surrounded by fast-food chains and other small stores at which students can venture out, in order to discover employment opportunities. 

Oshawa Centre:

This is Durham Region’s largest shopping centre and is about a 20-30 minutes bus ride from the university. This shopping centre has a job board that students can definitely look into and view in order to discover opportunities at the mall all in one convenient place.
